ArenA Throwdown 2019

The Johan Cruijff ArenA. Home of football ( soccer ) club Ajax. An ample open space used for football matches with up to 60.000 supporters. Events like rock concerts or sensation black and white are now home to the first Crossfit Throwdown.

Layers of metal flooring are placed over the grass to preserve the grass layer. After adding fencing and workout equipment, there are four workout arena’s where the participants compete.

With Crossfit Energy athletes competing in the Elite Men 35-40, Teens Categories each athlete competed in their class. With four workouts to try and win first place in the event.

Johan Tokkie of Crossfit Energy spends extra time with the competing athletes to prepare them for the ArenA Throwdown events to come. Testing workouts and strategize how to approach a specific WOD when they announce the wods a few days upfront.

With 17 athletes and 4 arena’s, it is almost impossible to follow them all. The images are a ‘snapshot’ of the events.

This year as it is the first year in the big Amsterdam ArenA ( Johan Cruijff ArenA), everything at the ArenA Throwdown was new and exciting. 2020 will be more exciting because everyone wants to participate in next years event. It will be harder to qualify for the finals. And the achievement will be even more massive.
